James McMichael
James McMichael is the author of six books of poetry—Against the Falling Evil (1971); The Lover’s Familiar (1978); Four Good Things (1980); Each in a Place Apart (1994); The World at Large: New and Selected Poems, 1971–1996 (1996); and Capacity (2006), which was a finalist for the National Book Award—as well as two nonfiction books, The Style of the Short Poem (1967) and “Ulysses” and Justice (1991). He is the recipient of a Eunice Tietjens Memorial Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Shelly Memorial Prize, and a Whiting Writers’ Award. He is the director of the Master of Fine Arts Poetry Writing Program at the University of California, Irvine.
