Pier Paolo Pasolini
Pier Paolo Pasolini was born in Bologna, Italy, in 1922. He is perhaps best known for his work as a filmmaker, though he wrote poems, novels, and essays from an early age. In his written and film work Pasolini was the subject of constant controversy and allegations by the Italian government, and his renaissance arts career was cut short by his mysterious and violent death in 1975.
Today Pasolini is the subject of numerous career retrospectives and posthumous honors, and films like Salò (1975) are regarded as modern classics.
