"The Ancients Said That Poetry Is a Stairway To God"
Here's more Eliza Griswold, this time reading a poem by Eugenio Montale, 'Syria,' translated by FSG's own Jonathan Galassi.
I know it seems like I'm writing this blog on cruise control by referring you to the introductory comments made by our poets, but Eliza introduces this so well, I could add nothing of value:
"The poem takes seriously the idea that a poetry creates ceremonial space to reach God--or can do so--which is something I find really compelling, and is an old idea."
There's much, much more, so give it a listen, and then mark her event on your calendar.
